The USS Iwo Jima (LHD-7) is a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship of the United States Navy. It is the second U.S. Navy ship to be named after the World War II Battle of Iwo Jima. Commissioned in 2001, the ship is designed to transport and land U.S. Marine Corps troops and their equipment by way of helicopters, landing craft, and amphibious vehicles.
