The U.S. Air Force recently announced that it has picked Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska as the location to host a new small nuclear reactor as part of a pilot program.It is located approximately 26 miles (42 km) southeast of Fairbanks, Alaska.Viewers may note that the base is home to 354th Fighter Wing which operates F-35A Joint Strike Fighters and F-16 Viper aggressor jets and Alaska Air National Guard’s 168th Air Refueling Wing that flies KC-135 tankers as well as many other assets.The idea is to use nuclear energy to power the base.
