US Navy Eyes Second Shipyard for Constellation Class Frigate Build Out

General

The U.S. Navy is taking a major step to expand its surface fleet with the Constellation-class (FFG 62) frigates. The Navy has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to U.S. shipbuilders, seeking details on their ability to produce these advanced vessels. Based on the Franco-Italian FREMM design, the Constellation-class frigates will bring enhanced capability and modularity to the Navy. With the goal of achieving a 350-ship Navy, the U.S. is looking to engage a second shipyard, potentially General Dynamics’ Bath Iron Works, to meet the growing demand. These frigates will be crucial for anti-submarine warfare, surface warfare, and maintaining U.S. naval superiority in an era of rising global tensions.
