U.S. Army Chief of Staff James McConville has ordered a service-wide aviation stand down that grounds all Army aviators until they complete required training. The stand down was ordered in after two AH-64 Apache helicopters had a midair while returning from a training mission near Healy, Alaska. The crash killed three Army aviators attached to the 1st Attack Battalion, 25th Aviation Regiment at Fort Wainwright. The names of those soldiers have not been released pending notification of next of kin.And on March 29, two Blackhawks from the 101st Airborne Division had a midair during a nighttime training flight and crashed in a field near Fort Campbell, Ky. That mishap took the lives of nine soldiers.
