Being first doesn’t always require a practically infinite budget (but being friends with America often helps).In the 1960s, Sweden found itself in a very specific position which allowed engineers at SAAB to develop the first integrated circuit based computer to be used in an aircraft. The CK37 was at least several years ahead of its time, and even then, it was built from components that were available to civilians.
