The Swedish company Saab is working on a concept for a stealth loyal wingman type drone that has supersonic speed. The program has been running for some time as a self-funded effort by the company. This unmanned combat vehicle model even underwent wind tunnel tests in 2021. Saab’s loyal wingman concept has only been revealed since at least September 2022, when it was presented as part of an academic paper at the 33rd Congress of the International Council of Aeronautical Sciences (ICAS), which took place in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. . Unlike most similar designs and concepts, the Saab loyal wingman appears to have been adapted for high speed as well as low observability. It has a slender body wing configuration that combines with a V-style tail fin with an arrow-like chin. This drone is equipped with a single engine that is fed by an air intake on the back. This combat drone has an internal space large enough to carry weapons on both sides of the fuselage. Apart from being designed to pair with the Gripen NG fighter jet, this Saab-designed loyal wingman is also for use with the 6th generation European fighter aircraft FCAS (future combat air system) driven by Britain and Italy. Although Saab initially joined the FCAS program, it eventually withdrew, choosing to design it itself for the Swedish Air Force. #armyrangers #military #armyranger #army #usarmytraining #navy #marine #usarmy #airforce
