China has developed a new combat drone to operate alongside its most advanced stealth fighter jet, the J-20 Mighty Dragon. A prototype of the unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV), FH-97A, was unveiled at the Zhuhai air show in November 2023. Chinese military magazines have since reported that it could become another “loyal wingman” for the J-20. The “loyal wingman” concept envisages that UCAVs support the pilots of the fighter aircraft autonomously during combat operations.
