The Marine Corps Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 314 from the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (3rd MAW) has made an important milestone in the history of the United States Marine Corps. They became the first Marine squadron to be operationally deployed with the F-35C Lightning II stealth fighter jet aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). Their departure from San Diego Bay marks a new phase in the integration of the Marine Corps’ air power with the U.S. Navy’s naval fleet.
