In June 2024, Ukraine significantly strengthened its naval forces with the acquisition of Swedish CB-90 boats, known as Drakar. Purchased for 165 million hryvnias, these amphibious assault vessels were added to Ukraine’s special forces under the Steel Front initiative. The Drakar boats, highly maneuverable and capable of speeds up to 43 knots, can transport 21 fully equipped troops or 4.5 tons of cargo. Equipped with machine guns, grenade launchers, and capable of carrying light anti-ship missiles, these boats play a key role in landing operations, sea surveillance, and evacuation missions. With armor protection and a range of 300 nautical miles, the Drakar ships are vital for Ukraine’s maritime operations in the Black Sea.
