Germany & The United States Agreed to Promote F-35 Fighter Jet in EuropeGermany has opted to replace its aging Tornado fleet with the F-35 fighter jet, according to German manufacturer Rheinmetall, which said Friday that it had secured an agreement with American arms major Lockheed Martin to supply parts for the aircraft. A plane’s main body, or fuselage, is where the crew and passengers typically sit. If completed, the agreement would mark the start of a new cooperation between the two businesses. According to Mike Shoemaker, vice president of F-35 customer programs at Lockheed Martin, “the F-35 center fuselage manufacturing in Germany will be essential to supply the expanding global demand for F-35s.” The F-35, the most sophisticated warplane in the world, is extremely difficult to detect on radar due to its form and low-observability coating. The jet is becoming increasingly popular in NATO and in Europe: Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway and Poland have all placed orders in recent years.
