Following defeat in WW1, Germany was forbidden to build or operation U-boats. But in secret, the Weimar Republic’s navy began illegally designing submarines and training crews to operate them. This was a decade before an authoritarian government in Germany, and is largely unknown today. By 1935, Germany was ready to unleash the U-boat on the world once more!
