A thermal power plant in the Russian border city of Belgorod caught fire in overnight on April 17. A huge inferno spiralled high into the sky destroying two key electricity supply stations. Russian military bloggers attributed the attack to a Ukrainian drone which dropped explosives on two substations in the Belgorod region. The destruction of the sites took place in Igumenka and Dragunskoe, which left part of the regional capital without power.
