The size of the military buildup in the Caribbean suggests that the United States has more in store for Venezuela than just taking out a few suspected drug running boats on the high seas. Once the Ford Carrier Strike Group arrives on station from the Med there will be more firepower in the region than there has been anywhere for decades, and it’s likely the Americans will execute airstrikes into Venezuela. Will they surgically target the cartels’ drug manufacturing facilities or is the plan to topple the Maduro government? And what sort of defense can the Venezuelan military mount, particularly the Air Force and Navy?
