We are moving into an era where emerging signal-jamming capabilities of adversaries threaten the effectiveness of the existing artillery precision guidance kits. That’s right, in todays climate of technology and systems that are available for precision engagements with artillery projectiles, there is the ability for both rocket and conventional firing munitions to be jammed, interfered with and even potentially hacked.This isn’t exactly news to us in todays modern battlefield, but is it developing more and more across the globe in the defense industry and increasing the risk to artillery units being unable to provide the incredible levels of accuracy that munitions like the Excalibur round.As always though when it comes to technology and IT hardware in military weapons it’s a arms race to find out who can counter who’s systems. It looks to me that the nature of artillery however in the current scope of military conflict is a lot less sexy and involved as we may think.
