Previously, at the NATO summit, Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair announced that the country would procure up to 12 conventionally-powered submarines, with the procurement process now underway.This marks the largest expansion of the Canadian Navy’s underwater forces to date. Once completed, it will greatly enhance the Navy’s underwater strength, potentially having a significant impact on regional military dynamics, particularly in the Arctic region.Additionally, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Canada is expected to meet NATO’s target of defense spending at 2% of GDP by 2032.
