General Dynamics Bath Iron Works (BIW) has formally christened the future USS William Charette (DDG 130), the U.S. Navy’s newest guided-missile destroyer and the shipyard’s second Flight III Arleigh Burke-class destroyer. The ceremony was held on August 1 at BIW’s dry dock in Bath, Maine, marking another milestone in the construction of one of the Navy’s most advanced surface combatants. Addressing attendees, BIW President Charles F. Krugh announced that the destroyer will carry the motto “Valor in Service,” a tribute to William Charette’s exceptional bravery during the Korean War and his more than 20 years of distinguished service in the U.S. Navy. Acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao, said, “This destroyer will be the shield of the fleet, protecting the carrier strike group from air and missile threats and holding sea lanes of communication open for maritime commerce.” In this video,
