Type 212CD Canada Joins Germany & Norway in NATO Submarine Planning

Type 212CD planning now links Canada, Germany and Norway. TKMS is moving the NATO submarine partnership forward. Germany, Norway and Canada have begun joint planning for the Type 212CD submarine programme with TKMS, opening a new phase of multinational naval cooperation. TKMS officially announced the launch of the trilateral planning phase in August 2026. The first trilateral planning event in Kiel focused on the next stages of the 212CD programme, new working structures and preparations for future contract negotiations. Canada selected TKMS as the Preferred Supplier for the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project on July 6, 2026 and is now negotiating the potential acquisition of up to 12 new submarines.
