The Kee Lung-class destroyers are a group of four guided-missile destroyers serving in the Republic of China Navy (ROCN). Originally built as the Kidd-class for the U.S. Navy, they were acquired by Taiwan in the early 2000s to enhance its air defense capabilities. These ships—ROCS Kee Lung (DDG-1801), ROCS Su Ao (DDG-1802), ROCS Tso Ying (DDG-1803), and ROCS Ma Kong (DDG-1805)—are among the most powerful surface combatants in Taiwan’s fleet.Equipped with the SM-2 surface-to-air missiles, and robust anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capabilities, the Kee Lung-class plays a critical role in Taiwan’s air defense network and fleet escort operations. Despite their age, they remain a deterrent against aerial and naval threats in the Taiwan Strait.
