On 6 October 2026, Anduril and the US Navy unveiled Arsenal-2, a $6.6 billion submarine component yard at Sparrows Point near Baltimore, on the old Bethlehem Steel site. The Navy contract is worth up to $2.9 billion and is paid only against delivered results. Anduril is putting in $3.7 billion of its own money. We look at what the deal actually commits, why America's Virginia-class build rate is stuck near 1.2 boats a year against a target of 2.33, whether a defence-tech newcomer can meet SUBSAFE standards, and how this fits with the Block VI contract and Babcock's Virginia-class work at Rosyth. We also look at what a continued shortfall means for AUKUS and for Britain.
