The United States Navy has commissioned a new Arleigh Burke–class guided-missile destroyer, USS Harvey C. Barnum Jr. (DDG 124), during a formal ceremony at Naval Station Norfolk. Sailors ceremonially ran aboard the warship as the vessel was brought to life during commissioning event, officially marking its transition into active service. The destroyer is named in honor of a Medal of Honor recipient and retired Marine Corps colonel, and is the first ship to bear Barnum’s name. Notably, he is among the few individuals to have witnessed the commissioning of a vessel named in their honor. Secretary of the US Navy John C.
