The Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine USS Rhode Island (SSBN 740) launched an unarmed Trident II D5LE missile. This launch occurred off the coast of Cape Canaveral, Florida, in the Atlantic Ocean. The event was part of Demonstration and Shakedown Operation (DASO) 29 on May 9, 2019. DASO 29 is a U.S. Navy Strategic Systems Program certification process. Its objective is to evaluate the readiness of the SSBN’s Strategic Weapon System and crew. This certification ensures readiness before operational deployment, following an engineered refueling overhaul.
