The Air Force wants to dramatically rebuild its fighter force, with a stated goal of 1,558 crewed fighters by 2035. But a new Congressional Research Service report highlights a major problem: the service is already dealing with pilot and maintainer shortages, limited training time, an aging fleet, and other readiness constraints.
