The US Navy's newest supercarrier, the future USS John F. Kennedy (CVN-79), has entered the final phase before being delivered to the fleet. After more than a decade of construction and testing, the 100,000-ton Ford-class carrier has completed both builder's trials and acceptance trials at sea. In this video we break down what the John F. Kennedy actually is, how it compares to the Nimitz-class carriers it's replacing, its $11.3 billion price tag, why its delivery has been delayed from 2025 to March 2027, and what's still left before the US Navy officially takes control of the ship — including the Advanced Arresting Gear and Advanced Weapons Elevators that have driven most of the delay.
