The U.S. Navy has officially welcomed its newest Arleigh Burke‑class guided‑missile destroyer, USS Harvey C. Barnum Jr. (DDG 124), into active service following a commissioning ceremony at Naval Station Norfolk on April 11, 2026. The event marked not only the arrival of a powerful new multi‑mission warship, but also a rare honor for its living namesake, retired Marine Corps Colonel and Medal of Honor recipient Harvey C. “Barney” Barnum Jr.
