How do you escape an aircraft flying at Mach 2 and 40,000 feet? A conventional ejection seat wasn’t enough. To solve the problem, the Convair B-58 Hustler became the world’s first operational aircraft equipped with fully enclosed escape capsules. Instead of exposing the crew to the Mach 2 windblast, the entire capsule closed around the crew member before ejection. In this video, we’ll explore how the Stanley escape capsule worked, why it was developed, how it was tested, and what happened during every documented real-life use. Everything is recreated in 3D using original technical documentation, historical photographs, and available archival sources.
