The “brrrt” of the GAU-8 Gatling gun in action, the whistle of the TF34 engines as A-10 Warthogs fly at low level, the hurried calls of the Joint Terminal Attack Controllers needing support from above – welcome to the first episode in TWZ’s opening season of “Special Access”: taking you up close to the latest military tech and inside the wire at elite military units. In this episode, Jamie Hunter visits the Warthog Weapons Instructor Course at Nellis AFB that has been the center of excellence for the A-10 and its missions for nearly 50 years, but is now closing down as the mighty “Hog” nears retirement. Jamie had the rare opportunity to fly with the 66th Weapons Squadron’s A-10 team as they supported a capstone exercise one last time during the Weapons School’s final graduation events for new USAF Weapon Instructors before they gain their prestigious graduate patches.
