The U.S. Army has received the first prototypes of both vehicles competing to become the XM30 Mechanized Infantry Combat Vehicle: American Rheinmetall’s Lynx XM30 and General Dynamics Land Systems’ Wolf XM30.
The XM30 is intended to replace the M2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle, but the Army has been trying, and failing, to develop a successor for decades.
In this video, we compare the Lynx and Wolf prototypes, including their XM913 50mm cannons, unmanned turrets, hybrid-electric propulsion, active protection systems, drone integration, and two-soldier crews.
We also trace the XM30 program from the Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle, or OMFV, through the Army’s earlier Future Combat Systems and Ground Combat Vehicle programs.
Finally, we examine the paused Milestone B decision and the Army’s 2026 request for information on rapidly designing and producing ground combat vehicles, and ask whether either prototype will ultimately replace the Bradley.
