We sat down with retired NASA astronaut Susan Helms to reflect on astronaut Frank Culbertson’s experience aboard the International Space Station when he witnessed the events of 9/11 from space. She had just left to come home, but aboard the ISS, Frank could see the dust cloud from space and recall the haunting update from mission control.
