Six strategic Russian oil refineries have been hit over the past week, causing damage worth millions of dollars, according to Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence. Among the key targets was the Moscow Oil Refinery, where Ukrainian strikes reportedly put key oil-processing units out of operation. The Perm Oil Refinery, which has an annual crude-oil processing capacity of 13 million tonnes and supplies fuel to Russian military units, was also targeted. Other refineries reportedly hit include the Novoshakhtinsk Oil Refinery, which has a capacity of 7.5 million tonnes of oil per year, and the Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim refinery, which has a similar annual processing capacity. The Kuibyshev Oil Refinery, one of the key facilities operated by Russia’s Rosneft oil company, was also among the reported targets. The plant has an annual capacity of around 7 million tonnes of oil.
The Ilsky Oil Refinery was also hit. The facility processes approximately 6.6 million tonnes of crude oil annually. Ukraine’s Defence Ministry additionally reported that the Iskra plant was struck. The facility produces electronic components for Russia’s defence industry, including components used in the Pantsir air-defence missile and gun system. The strikes are part of Ukraine’s ongoing campaign against Russian energy and defence infrastructure, with Kyiv seeking to disrupt fuel production and supplies as well as the industrial capacity supporting Russia’s military.
