Russian forces struck Kharkiv with at least three guided aerial bombs, KABs, and a combat drone on October 5, killing three people and injuring at least 39 others, including children, Ukrainian officials said.
The attack was reported by Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov and Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration.
Terekhov said the number of fatalities had risen to three, while 29 people had been injured. Syniehubov later said 35 people were receiving medical treatment following the KAB strikes. Emergency crews continue to deal with the aftermath of the attack.
“At this point, we already have 29 wounded, including three children. One of those injured is a street cleaner. There are three fatalities,” Terekhov said. Earlier, the mayor had reported two deaths and 25 injuries. Russian forces also targeted a fuel station in Kharkiv’s Kyivskyi district with a combat drone. Bomb strikes were recorded in the city’s Slobidskyi district, where warehouses caught fire and residential buildings were damaged. According to Terekhov, people may be trapped beneath the rubble of one of the damaged residential buildings. Search-and-rescue operations and inspections of the strike sites are ongoing. The attack followed another Russian strike in Kharkiv on the evening of October 4. In the city’s Industrialnyi district, Russian forces used “Banderol” aerial weapons, striking, among other targets, a vehicle. One person was killed and eight others were injured.
