Riot police fired tear gas at hundreds of high school students in Paris on Friday as a wave of protests over conditions in French schools continued to spread across the country. According to Associated Press students set fire to bins and bicycles outside a blocked high school before scattering through surrounding streets as police moved in, in the latest clashes during a protest movement that began in the Paris region less than two weeks ago. The unrest has rapidly spread nationwide, with students protesting over teacher and staff shortages, dilapidated buildings, overcrowded classrooms, long school days and France’s university admissions system. More than 1,000 schools have been affected since the movement began, and hundreds of students, school staff and members of the security services have been injured.
