Every Cygnus spacecraft is named after someone who helped move human spaceflight forward. Our next Cygnus XL spacecraft, NG-25, honors astronaut Jim Lovell.
Lovell flew four space missions: Gemini 7, Gemini 12, Apollo 8 and Apollo 13. He was among the first humans to orbit the Moon and, as commander of Apollo 13, helped lead his crew through a life-threatening emergency and back to Earth safely.
Our lunar module played a critical role in that mission, providing the oxygen, power and propulsion the crew needed to make it home.
Lovell spent more than 715 hours in space, leaving a legacy of courage, teamwork and problem-solving that continues to inspire us.
