The Iranian army plans to begin training volunteers under a programme that aims to prepare citizens for “national defence”, according to Iran’s West Asia News Agency
Brig. Gen. Mohammad Reza Alian-Nejad, Iran army’s deputy for training and education, said the programme would be conducted at three facilities in Tehran starting Oct. 4
He said army personnel would be deployed to several designated “field garrison” sites to provide the volunteers with “basic military training” followed by more advanced courses
The remarks came as Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that the top issue currently being discussed by Tehran is the reopening of the vital Strait of Hormuz
