Ukraine says Operation Vivaldi has retaken ground north of Lyman. One of its stranger reported tactics: Soviet-era armored personnel carriers converted into unmanned explosive vehicles and sent against Russian positions.
But Vivaldi’s apparent success isn’t about one weapon. It’s how Ukrainian forces are combining drones, electronic warfare, strikes on Russian logistics, ground robots, deception, and infantry to weaken a Russian salient before attacking.
Ukraine’s Third Army Corps says the operation has reclaimed 176 square kilometers and captured more than 250 Russian troops. Those figures come from Ukrainian commanders and have not been independently audited.
