HMS Queen Elizabeth departs Portsmouth with Counter Terrorism police escort

General

HMS Queen Elizabeth departs Portsmouth to sea for various trials and training after a period of maintenance at Rosyth in Scotland. Armed police escorted the aircraft carrier out through Portsmouth Harbour as they often do. His Majesty’s Ship (HMS) Queen Elizabeth is the first in its class of Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers based at His Majesty’s Naval Base (HMNB) Portsmouth. Several police boats of the Ministry of Defence Police escorted the Royal Navy vessel. The channel was closed for all marine traffic (except for the yachts passing our camera, that are usually held at the marina.) Tugs from Serco guided the aircraft carrier as it moved away from the Princess Royal Jetty, and turned around in the harbour.
