Heavy rain caused flooding in parts of northern Vietnam on Thursday, including Thanh Hoa and Ninh Binh provinces, disrupting travel and forcing residents to cope with rising water, state media reported. National television VTV showed footage of swollen rivers and submerged houses and facilities in the low areas. In Ninh Binh province, a local resident who lives near the Hoang Long river said on VTV that flooding comes regularly during the monsoon season and they are used to the situation. In Hanoi capital, torrential rain during the early morning rush hour flooded several roads, causing severe traffic congestion as commuters struggled to get to work. The rain, which started since Tuesday, is forecast to last until the end of Thursday, but authorities warned the rain would raise the risk of further flooding and landslides in low-lying and mountainous areas.
