Ghostly Blue Fire: F – 35B’s Thrust – Vectoring Nozzle at Night

General

An F-35B Lightning II fighter jet comes in for a vertical landing at night aboard an amphibious assault ship, its thrust-vectoring nozzle glowing a ghostly blue-white against the darkened flight deck. That eerie color isn’t the actual flame temperature — it’s a byproduct of the low-light camera used to film the landing. In near-total darkness, the sensor overexposes on the intensely bright exhaust plume, shifting its true orange-red glow into a cooler white-to-cyan tone.
