F-22 Raptors launch from RAF Lakenheath. Watch as the air superiority fighter jet can be seen here taxiing to the runway, and departing as a flight of six. Twenty four F-22s had arrived in England at the start of Operation Epic Fury. The initial twelve forward deployed to the Middle East, while the further twelve stayed back in England. The six featured in this video appear to have gone back to Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, based on public flight tracking data of the fuel tankers. The Lockheed Martin–Boeing F-22 Raptor was designed and manufactured in the 1990s, with the first flight taking place in 1997 and introduction to service in 2005. Designed as a stealth jet for the Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) program to initially replace the F-15 Eagle, the program was then scaled back in favour of the F-35 Lightning II that has now replaced many F-15s (including at Lakenheath).
