A series of explosions rocked a military facility near the town of Al-Eis, near Aleppo, Syria, on the morning of September 21. At least four civilians were injured. Asharq Al-Awsat reportsciting Syrian state media.
According to the state news agency SANA, one civilian was injured by shrapnel as a result of the explosion at the ammunition depot. Two others suffered temporary breathing difficulties. Another civilian was injured in a traffic accident while attempting to flee the area.
Civil defense units transported the wounded and evacuated three families from the area. According to AFP, rescuers remained on high alert due to ongoing explosions.
Aleppo Civil Defense Operations Director Faisal Mohammad Ali told state-run Al-Ikhbariya TV that the explosions prevented emergency services from quickly reaching the scene.
The cause of the explosions has not been determined at the time of publication. A resident of the Hamdaniya neighborhood of Aleppo told AFP that he heard a powerful explosion and saw large flames in the distance from the roof of his home.
Aleppo Governor Azzam al-Gharib called on residents to temporarily remain indoors. He said hospitals, ambulance crews, and emergency services have been put on full alert. The Aleppo Internal Security Command reported that roads leading to the explosion site have been closed for the safety of civilians.
The day before, an explosion of unknown origin at a military facility in the eastern province of Deir ez-Zor claimed the lives of 11 people. Earlier this month, an explosion at a Ministry of Defense weapons depot in Idlib province reportedly killed 14 people and injured 11 more.
