New satellite imagery from the Russian port of Azov shows damaged Russian tankers and cargo vessels gathered along the shoreline. After being destroyed in the massive Ukrainian strike campaign to cut off Crimea from the sea, many were towed back into ports, with Russian hoping they could still be repaired. In practice however, Russian crews are effectively dragging maritime corpses back to shore, only to send out more vessels along the same routes, and into the Ukrainian killing fields in the sea of Azov. This has become Russia’s maritime version of its suicidal frontal assaults on land, with fresh vessels sent forward while damaged and crippled ships from failed past blockade runs are dragged back to port.
