The members of the Spanish Civil Guard are deployed across Valencia and Alicante after heavy rain triggered widespread flooding. According to Associated Press the Spanish Meteorological Agency warned of a high or extreme risk of flooding in Alicante, south-west Spain. The worst hit areas are in La Safor and the north of the Marina Alta; between Pego, Real de Gandia, Villalonga and Barx, where rainfall exceeded 500 l/m² over the last 48 hours, with occasional peaks exceeding 600 l/m².
