A gunman opened fire near a high school in western Turkey on Tuesday, officials said. According to Associated Press media reports said at least four people were wounded. The attack took place in front of a vocational and technical high school in the Turgutlu district of Manisa province, the provincial governor’s office said in a statement. Police and medical teams were sent to the scene, it said.
HaberTurk television reported that at least four people, mostly students, were wounded. It said the assailant fired a shotgun at students arriving at the school. The motive was not immediately known. The shooting was the latest in a series of school shootings in Turkey this year. In April, a 14-year-old student opened fire in two classrooms at a school in southeastern Kahramanmaras province, killing nine students and teachers and wounding 13 others.
Police killed the attacker. A day before the shooting in Kahramanmaras, 16 people, mostly students, were wounded when a former student opened fire at a high school in nearby Sanliurfa province. The assailant later killed himself.
