Brigadier-General Christopher Horner, commander of 3 Canadian Space Division, explains how the Department of National Defence is pushing to detect and understand threats to Canadian sovereignty and security in space. Horner told The West Block host Ben Mulroney that the 2017 defence policy, “Strong, Secure and Engaged,” was reaffirmed in 2024’s “Our North Strong and Free” with a $26-billion investment in intelligence surveillance to move Canada forward. “On top of that, it’s introducing intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platforms that operate from space to allow us to detect threats to Canada or encroachments on our sovereignty in the Arctic and in the surrounding waters that approach Canada,” Horner said.
