Albanian protesters clash with riot police on the streets of Tirana in fourth day of demonstrations

Student-led demonstrators clashed with Albanian police in Tirana for a fourth day on Friday, joining a broader anti-government movement. According to Associated Press youth protester threw rocks at police outside the Education Ministry. Riot police responded with tear gas and water cannons. The protests, led by student groups seeking education reforms, are part of the so-called "flamingo" movement. They demanded Prime Minister Edi Rama's resignation over allegations of widespread corruption and in opposition to the large luxury tourism development on Albania’s southern coast, associated with an investment firm founded by U.S. President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner. The conservative opposition Democratic Party backed the student protests and called on Rama to appoint a caretaker government to prepare for early elections.
