AGM-190A Havoc Spear | Missile that doesn’t need bomber or fighter for launch

The AGM-190A Havoc Spear small cruise missile underwent a new combat evaluation, with the weapon launched from an Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) platform in a “test configuration,” as announced on September 14, 2026.
The evaluation was conducted within the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) Area of Responsibility (AOR) and successfully demonstrated the missile’s ability to meet the requirements for broader operational employment. According to AFSOC, the evaluation cleared the system for use across a range of special operations and conventional aircraft.

The latest event represents the third publicly known phase of Havoc Spear testing, following captive-carry trials conducted in December 2023 and guided flight testing in November 2024.
The missile also received its official AGM-190A designation earlier this year. Leidos announced this on February 26, ending its previous identification as the Black Arrow small cruise missile.
What makes this missile interesting is the fact that it is not dependent on bombers or fighters for launch. Let us check it out.
