The U.S. Army and Hanwha Defense USA have just unveiled the XM1776 Mobile Tactical Cannon, a wheeled 155-millimeter artillery system intended to deliver greater mobility, longer-range firepower, and improved crew protection. Introduced at the Association of the United States Army’s 2026 Annual Meeting and Exposition in Washington, the weapon represents a significant step in the Army’s effort to modernize artillery in selected formations currently equipped with M777 towed howitzers. However, it remains a prototype rather than a system approved for full-scale operational deployment.
