(6)The Harry DeWolf-class Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship (AOPS) is a class of ice-capable patrol vessels built for the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) as part of the National Shipbuilding Strategy. The lead ship, HMCS Harry DeWolf (AOPV 430), was commissioned in 2021 and named after Vice-Admiral Harry DeWolf, a distinguished Canadian naval officer.The Harry DeWolf-class enhances Canada’s presence in Arctic and offshore environments, enforcing sovereignty, supporting search and rescue (SAR) efforts, and contributing to international operations. It also assists in disaster response and environmental protection.The Royal Canadian Navy plans for six ships in this class, with some versions potentially entering Canadian Coast Guard service.The HMCS Harry DeWolf (AOPV 430) represents a significant step in modernizing Canada’s naval presence in the Arctic, strengthening its ability to operate in extreme northern conditions while supporting a wide range of missions.
