Helsing Contra is an AI-run air-defense system that launches 60 interceptors from two standard shipping containers and aims to bring each hit under €100,000, potentially less than the Russian jet-powered Geran drones it’s designed to hunt.
The AD-1 Inferno is a jet-powered interceptor that can loiter, swarm, and re-engage after a miss.
The AD-2 Ambush is a Mach 2.5 rocket built for fast threats and leakers.
Tying it together, Helsing’s software merges radar, infrared, camera and acoustic sensors with existing weapons such as Patriot, IRIS-T, and interceptor drones to decide who shoots what.
In this video I explain why an air-defense missile would need to loiter, why Helsing built two independent European supply chains, how a target of 1,000 interceptors a month changes the math of Russia’s drone campaign, and why Ukraine’s crews wrote the lessons behind it. One important caveat: neither interceptor has finished flight testing, and the first deliveries aren’t expected before 2027.
