Ukrainian drones pound Russia’s Ryazan oil refinery for second night in a row – massive fire rages

Ukrainian drones launched an overnight attack on Russia on October 16, with the Ryazan oil refinery among the targets. Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck the Ryazan refinery for the second consecutive day. Public figure Serhii Sternenko said a fire at the facility burned throughout the night and was still raging. Ryazan Region Governor Pavel Malkov did not confirm an attack on the refinery but said five drones had been intercepted over the region overnight, adding that no damage or casualties had been reported. The refinery was targeted just a day earlier, when a major fire broke out at the facility. The latest attack follows Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s announcement that strikes against Russian oil refineries would resume. Zelenskyy explained that Ukraine had suspended attacks on Russian refineries for three days following US President Donald Trump’s announcement of an energy truce. However, Russia continued striking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure during that period. Ryazan was not the only Russian region reporting overnight incidents. Numerous explosions were reported in the Moscow region, where airports have experienced significant operational disruptions for approximately a week. The Vladimir region also came under attack. Governor Alexander Avdeyev said drones targeted thermal infrastructure, causing what he described as “minor damage.” Meanwhile, Russian reports indicated that an industrial and warehouse facility in the Rostov region had also been hit.
