The UK is not the only country in Europe focused on building this kind of state-of-the-art weaponry, the European Union identified hypersonic weapons as one of its critical and foundational technologies in air and missile defence that will be key for the rearmament of the continent in a March white paper on defence readiness. Both the US and the UK have selected the same company to accelerate the path toward fieldable hypersonic systems. To revolutionize their high-speed capabilities, the United States and the United Kingdom have selected Rocket Lab to support hypersonic technology development for defense sectors. UK hypersonic research, which could see weapons travelling at several thousand miles per hour, has reached a landmark moment after successful completion of a major testing programme. This research aims to support delivery of a hypersonic weapon technology demonstrator by 2030, through the UK’s MOD Team Hypersonics programme.
